Budapest
Architecture Film Days __5-8th March 2015 __Toldi Cinema
Over 30 documentaries, short and
experimental films will reveal viewpoints, approaches and layers of the built
environment that help us looking at the surrounding city in different ways.
That help us to perceive the problems and shortcomings of urban life and
explore the untapped opportunities of urban space, society and communities.
One of the most important objectives of
the festival is to stimulate and empower us to take action for a better urban
environment. The selected films will focus on forms of communal life
and dwelling, collective creative processes done with your own hands,
user-generated, adaptable cities and buildings, the heterotopias of our cities
materializing in funfairs and theme parks, the infrastructure-monsters of the
car-centered urban areas, as well as on the traces of Eastern Europe’s
political transformations. This year’s edition offers some truly spectacular
moments. Many of the films will be screened in the presence of their directors,
and we’ll host Dutch star architect, Herman Hertzberger. Similarly
to the previous years, the Film Days won’t be limited to the spaces of Toldi:
the closing event of the festival, taking place in Uránia theatre, will present
Cathedrals of Culture a series of 3-dimensional building portraits, complied
by Wim Wenders and directed by Michael Glawogger, Michael
Madsen, Robert Redford, Margreth Olin and Karim Aïnouz. After last year’s
success, at the festival’s opening night Sándor Finta, the Chief
Architect of Budapest will present a dj set.
